Misty and Hiro at the vet’s

Catching Misty to put into the carrier was harder than I had expected.

She went totally feral on me, spraying urine everywhere, scaling the security windows and running helter-skelter all over the room.

I went from wearing gloves to taking off the gloves, and wearing them again, using the towel, I failed to put her into the carrier four times.

It really took longer than I had expected.

I thought I’d be late for our 11am appointment.

Finally, all the “everything, everywhere, all at once” madness ended with Misty going behind the mirror, me putting the carrier in front of her, and she relented.

So she walked into the carrier.

Phew!

Sorry, Misty, but I had to do this. I cannot have her breaking out by pushing the door open, especially if it’s on the road after I have parked to the get to the vet’s. If Misty escapes onto the road in PJ, I’m totally done for.

So I wrapped the carrier up, fortified by raffia strings.

Then we came downstairs, I scooped little Hiro into his smaller carrier and off we went.

Everything was fine in the car. No orchestra. Just little Hiro mewing here and there, very softly.

Waiting for our turn.

I got an appointment at 11am. The vet checked Hiro first.

Apparently what Hiro had that day was indeed a “collapsed lung”. The other vet that day was careful in not giving me a shock, so she just said “not inflating”. I wasn’t sure it that meant “collapsed”, but today, the vet said yes, Hiro had a collapsed right lung, but it can heal with medication.

When the vet picked up Hiro, she could already feel his breathing. It isn’t back to normal yet. So Hiro would need daily nebulization but it can be just saline without the Ventolin. Hiro weighed 395g on the clinic scale, so that is good. There is steady weight gain.

Nothing much can be done for Hiro today. His next check-up would be a few days before he finishes his antibiotics, that means sometime next week. That’s when we can take an X-ray and see if his right lung is functioning.

As for Misty, the vet needed their cat-handler assistant’s help. Misty wasn’t exactly cooperative, but I’d say she was much, much better than Riley and Samantha’s first visits. Riley went wild in the examination room for a good 10-15 minutes. Samantha was no better.

The vet did an ear-prick blood test and all is normal with Misty. They had to estimate her weight by weighing her with the carrier.

However, the surgery slots are full today. The vet will try to slot her in, but if not possible, the surgery (spaying) will be done only tomorrow. Misty will be boarded for the night. But if the surgery can be done today, I will take Misty back once it is done.

The vet needed a soft e-collar, so I drove back home, fed everyone and again, drove there to send the e-collar.

Now, I need a nap very badly!
