The search for Kai

Last night, the Princesses spent the night in the family hall. When I last checked, all three were huddled up together on a chair and they were asleep.

This morning, I was awaken by the sound of kitten mews. I could not detect exactly where the sound was coming from.

After feeding Hiro, Tabs, the Monsters, the Porch Cats and the Super Seniors, I went up to feed the Princesses, Samantha and Riley (Riley roomed in to keep Samantha company last night).

Indra greeted me at the top of the stairs. Akira was there too, but there was no sign of Kai at all.

I fed Indra and Akira and proceeded to look for Kai.

Kai was nowhere to be found, but I still heard the sound of kitten mews.

She couldn’t have escaped from the house because the house is really escape-proof. I searched everywhere upstairs and even searched downstairs (but not thoroughly). The doors to both rooms were closed so she couldn’t have gone into the rooms either. Only our master bedroom door was open and I searched in there as well.

There are no crevices which she could hide in in the family hall and our bedroom.

By then, my husband came up to help look as well. We got Riley out from Samantha’s room so that she too could help look for Kai.

Even Tabs came up to help look, but nobody could find her.

The search lasted for about one hour. I was already drenched in sweat by then, searching everywhere I could think of. By then, there were no more sounds.

I was worried in case Kai had got stuck somewhere.

Finally, our search led us downstairs.

And we finally found her, under the sofa. She must have been moving around downstairs so we kept missing her.

That took some effort, as well, in getting her out. She didn’t want to be caught. She still wanted to play hide-and-seek. And she isn’t hungry either.

Kai doesn’t care much for eating. She just wants to play.

Finally, it was a two-person job. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have been able to catch her.

Caught the naughtiest one. She struggled and protested.

Naughty, naughty!

This picture was taken before we found Kai.

Kai is on the left. I decided to move everything back to the room. I’ve tried my best to seal off the entrances into the back of the headboard now. Even if Kai can squeeze in, at least we know she is there and we don’t have to spend an hour drenched in sweat looking for her.

I’ve checked several times and she is “still” in the room.
