This afternoon, I took the Blondies (aka Princesses) and Hiro to the vet’s. The Blondies are due for their first vaccination, and Hiro for another round of deworming.
But yesterday I had already noticed that Indra’s left eye was very red and swollen. So I went to that pharmacy and bought Nicol eyedrops and starting applying on the eye.
All three Blondies have passed the 1kg mark and can be vaccinated, Indra being the heaviest of them all. However, because of her eye problem, her vaccination has to be delayed for two weeks.
Kai 1.09kg
Akira 1.06kg
Indra 1.1kg
There are bacteria and a lot of inflammatory cells in her eye, so yes, it is infected but it may or may not be due to the flu. But to play it safe, Indra has been prescribed the Doxycycline paste for 10 days. She was also given the Metacam injection (I call this the “magic injection”!). And the Nicol eyedrops isn’t so suitable for her problem. Instead, the vet prescribed Neo Deca eyedrops which contains steroids. It is anti-allergy, anti-inflammatory and is effective against bacteria as well. There was no visible ulcer but I would still have to monitor her eye. Indra could have also accidentally scratched her eye on something in the room.
How to administer Doxycycline: It must be given after food. After the tablet or paste is given, wash it down with water. If the medication is lodged in the esophagus, it can cause tissue damage. This condition is called “pill esophagitis”.
So, only Kai and Akira were dewormed and vaccinated. Indra and Hiro were dewormed only. In two weeks’ time, both of them will be ready for their first vaccination.

The left eye is quite badly inflamed.
But despite it, she’s as active as ever!
