The Snug Life: How Cats Find Comfort in the Cramped and Cozy

Cats are known for their love of boxes, and there are several reasons for this behavior. One possible explanation is that cats feel more secure in enclosed spaces, and a box provides a sense of security and protection. Boxes also provide cats with a cozy and comfortable place to rest and nap.

In addition, cats have a natural instinct to hide and stalk prey, and a box can provide them with a place to hide and observe their surroundings. Boxes can also be a form of enrichment for cats, as they can play and interact with them, scratching and chewing on the cardboard.

Destroying boxes seems like fun, for them.

I’m going to share more photos below:

Boxes provide a similar kind of secure and sheltered environment for cats, and this is one of the reasons why many cats enjoy hiding and playing in boxes. Boxes also offer cats a cozy and comfortable place to curl up and rest, which is important for their physical and mental well-being.

Additionally, cats are known for their excellent thermal regulation. Their bodies are designed to conserve heat, and they often seek out warm and cozy spots to sleep or rest. Small spaces like boxes or vases can provide an ideal environment for cats to maintain their body heat and feel comfortable.

Don’t disturb me, I want to sleep

Furthermore, cats are naturally curious creatures and enjoy exploring new spaces. They are also territorial animals and like to mark their territory by leaving their scent on objects. So, when they find a small, enclosed space like a box or vase, it provides them with a sense of ownership, and they feel more comfortable and relaxed.

It’s worth noting that not all cats exhibit this behavior, and some may prefer open spaces or other types of hiding spots. However, for many cats, cramped spaces can provide a sense of safety and comfort that they find appealing.

These are some of the weird choices:

This is Muffy. Very quick to jump on the opportunity to enter the bathroom when I forgot to close the door. And she knows how to turn on the tap and drink directly from there.
The most comfortable position.

In summary, cats are naturally drawn to small enclosed spaces such as boxes and vases, as it satisfies their innate desires for security, warmth, and territorial ownership. These spaces provide a comfortable and snug environment for them to rest and unwind. But each cat is unique and may have different preferences and behaviors. What about yours?
