When it comes to cat litter (and this is Cat’s Best litter) vs natural soil, natural soil wins for everyone except Tabs. Tabs is perhaps the only cat who must use the litter box with commercial cat litter.
The rest of them, if given a choice, prefers natural soil and the grass.
So, over at Bunny’s Place now, I’ve reduced the previous six litter boxes to only four. They are also not often used unless it rains heavily. Everyone, including the Blondies, prefer the soil and grass. They use the sandpit, shared with Cow Mau, Cleo and Indy, as well as the grass.
But I discovered that they also like soft and fine soil, which we’ve left in two planters boxes.

The top box has the softest and finest soil and the Blondies chose this as their favourite litter box.
If you remember last time, it was very challenging to train the Blondies to use the litter box because I started with tofu litter which was too grainy and it probably pokes their delicate little paws. I only succeeded in litter box training them after I changed the litter to Cat’s Best Sensitive which has the finest pellets. From there, we went on the Cat’s Best normal litter, which they now use.
But now, the three girls prefer this fine soil, so that’s fine with us. The only problem is that soil doesn’t clump, so it’s difficult to clean off urine. Faeces is fine as they are easily picked up.
So now there are four litter boxes, one long sandpit and two planters boxes in Bunny’s Place.
We also decided to fill the four planters boxes at Ginger’s Catio with sand so that the Monsters have more litter boxes to use.

For the Monsters, sand is fine. They don’t have delicate princessy paws like the Blondies. So now at Ginger’s Catio, there are four sand litter boxes, one sandpit and one litter box with Cat’s Best inside the cage. Six toilets for six cats!
As for Riley and Tabs, they have two litter boxes. One in the downstairs bathroom and one in the upstairs bathroom.
