Indy’s daily “oatmeal” stool

Okay, this is a tricky.

I am not 100% sure the “oatmeal” stool is from Indy, but it is found in Indy’s poo spot in the sandpit. Indy usually defecates on this spot, and for a week now, I have been scooping up oatmeal-like stool (a lump, without much form) from this exact spot. However, I have not been able to witness Indy passing it out.

So, is it Indy’s?

Using my best guess, it has to be Indy’s. But other than the once-a-day oatmeal stool, Indy’s behaviour and demeanour hasn’t changed.

If it’s once-a-day, it isn’t diarrhoea. It’s just loose stools.

I don’t know what could have caused this, but Indy is well-known for his gastro-intestinal problems all his life. He once had diarrhoea for 7 weeks in October 2019 and nothing worked until I switched him to raw pure rabbit food. Then again, in July 2021 and this time, I actually don’t know what solved it but it resolved by itself (Indy’s own TCM (Traditional Cat Medicine)).

Now, he allegedly has a gastro problem again which presents as once-a-day oatmeal stool.

I started him on kaolin pectin (the pink liquid), 2ml twice a day, as advised by the vet (last check on Wednesday, the vet said he had a gassy gut). It helped initially, and then, it did not anymore.

One thing at a time, since it isn’t that serious yet.

So today, I started him on Maximus Pro GI (a yeast probiotic).

I’ve got a list of supplements to try, namely, steamed pumpkin, Slippery Elm Bark (this doesn’t seem to work for any of our cats so far), etc.

Could it be due to the change of diet? The one major change would be Hill’s KD. Or can the increased subcut fluids cause his oatmeal stool?

With Indy, it’s another wellknown fact that correct diagnosis of his issues is very, very difficult to achieve. He would usually have all vets completely baffled and somehow, the issue will just take its course and resolve by itself in its own time.

Let’s hope something works this time.

But at least it isn’t diarrhoea or vomiting. Just that once-a-day oatmeal stool.

Can you heal yourself, Indy?

Indy: In the first place, how do you know that oatmeal stool is mine?

True, Indy, true. But I had the vet palpate your gut and she said it was “gassy”, remember?

Anyway, my next step is to buy pumpkin today. At least pumpkin is not a drug/medicine. It’s food.
