I started Indy back on Promax yesterday and this morning, I saw really, really nice well-formed poop at his spot!
So far, this is the only probiotics that work for Indy’s recent “oatmeal” poop.
What doesn’t work so far are (1) Max Pro GI, (2) Gentle Digest and (3) Fera Organics Probiotics and Prebiotics.
A bit about Fera’s Probiotics: So far, I had been encapsulating Fera’s probiotic powder and pilling Indy and Cow Mau. Today, I sprinkled a bit of it into everybody’s food and most of them boycotted the food! So I guess they can sniff it out and they don’t like the unfamiliar taste.
But I’ve also bought Adored Beast’s Love Bugs, which is also highly recommended: https://adoredbeast.com/products/love-bugs
However, the price is double that of Fera’s.
From Love Bugs’ write-up:
Probiotics, or “friendly” bacteria, are the gut’s defense system against “bad” or dangerous disease-causing bacteria. Prebiotics serve as a fertilizer so the gut can grow a bountiful amount of this friendly bacteria leading to wonderful health benefits such as combating yeast, helping with seasonal allergies and IBD, and helping to prevent tooth decay! Contains 14 strain probiotic with 30 billion allergen-free CFU.
Why does my pet need a pre and probiotic?
The latest research in human and animal medicine points to the gut being responsible for more than 80% of the immune system! The main component of a healthy gut is the friendly bacteria that live there (probiotics). This bacteria combats bad bacteria. They are the gatekeepers that stop intruders and keep the mucosal lining healthy so the body receives its vital nutrition.
These “good soldiers” need to be able to have the proper fertilization in order to set up a colony and continue to produce and repopulate. Essentially, you need to feed the probiotics. This happens by giving a prebiotic.
Probiotics are not nearly as successful at reproducing and flourishing without the help of a prebiotic.
I will try Love Bugs on Indy after he finishes his big tube of Promax. I’m thinking that perhaps just like food where Indy needed protein rotation, perhaps he needs a probiotic rotation too?
Personally, I believe in using probiotics and prebiotics to safeguard our health as I’m using one myself. Mine has the novel name of “psychobiotics” as it is formulated to address the gut-brain serotonin connection and it’s been effectively keeping my cyclical depression at bay…so far!
