I’ve been having some difficulty feeding Indy his supplements even though I’ve reduced the four sessions into two (still giving him all that he needs, but combined together in two sessions per day).
And why so?
Because of this:
This is Indy’s new favourite spot now. And it is very difficult to catch him from so high up. And of course he won’t come down on his own.
For the last two days, I resorted to standing on that white stool which just barely enables me to catch his paws, but I still don’t get a good enough grip to haul him down if he resists. Indy is very strong.
And it’s foolish of me to run the risk of falling down from that stool. I will surely end up with some broken bones and for senior citizen, that’s no joke. A fall is the downfall of any elderly person.
So I thought of another idea this morning. Actually it is because I failed to get Indy even while standing on that white stool.
Catnip powder!!
Indy is a “drug addict” and he goes crazy over catnip powder and several types of Chinese ointments. The latter is a bit dangerous as some Chinese herbs may be toxic to cats, but catnip is definitely safe.
So I took out a small container of catnip powder and put it near Indy.
Oh, he went quite crazy and started rubbing himself on the platform. I was hoping the catnip powder would be enough to get him to jump down, but it wasn’t. So I made him as “high” as I possibly could, then I caught him and brought him down.
But this wasn’t a very good method since it still involved me standing on the white stool very precariously.
So I’ll have to figure out something else now.
The problem is the morning session because he is almost always up there at the platform. And in the morning, I have to give him his supplements and do his all-important subcut. So I need to figure out a way to get him to come down.
For the afternoon session, I’m planning to actually wait for him to come down (which he will, eventually), then give him his evening supplements even if it’s in the afternoon. Indy only has one “medicine” and that’s the Amlodipine to control his blood pressure. The rest are all supplements and can be taken anytime of the day though ideally, it should be in the morning and evening, spaced out, it’s actually the same supplements given twice daily. The Amlodipine is given in the morning session.
So I have to figure out how to get him down every morning.
Previously, this was Indy’s favourite spot – the top platform of the medium-sized cage. This platform is very easy; even though I cannot catch him with my hands due to the design of the cage (unless I have totally flexible and bendable arms), I can poke him with a blunt stick and he will come down by himself.
But now that he has taken up residence at the highest platform on Stargate, it’s a real challenge.
Husband says we could remove that highest platform, but I don’t have the heart to deny Indy the thrill of sitting up so high. It’s what he has always liked to do all his life – sitting high up. In our old house, he was always sitting atop my car.
Indy loves high places – being on top of the world!
