Guess who LOVES my homemade food (with soup)?

This is a follow-up of my quest to get all our cats (especially our CKD cats) to drink more water.

So I started making meat broth (without bone because of our CKD cats) and trying to make them drink it. Most of them were not interested and I had to add some meat to it. Then, I decided to turn the remaining meat and broth into homemade (water-filled) cooked cat food instead and they ate this.

Today, I tried my homemade food with the Porch Cats and take a look!

Gerald practically ate up the entire Tupperware of homemade food! Misty, on the other hand, did not quite like it. I know, of course it isn’t as tasty as canned food because there is no fish and I did not add anything. It is purely chicken breast meat, chicken liver, water, some carrot and pumpkin.

I had to add in her raw food to entice her to eat. Finally, Gerald ate up all of Misty’s food. Yes, he polished up everything.

Good boy, Gerald. Good boy!

I’m making a new batch of chicken broth tonight. I’m going to add liver and eggs to it to give it more taste. I will cut down on pumpkin as it does contain some phosphorus. Carrot has less phosphorus. CKD cats should only consume low phosphorus foods. Both pumpkin and carrot have potassium, though (which CKD cats need).

Per 100g, carrot has 35mg phosphorus while pumpkin has 44mg.

I might add cauliflower and wheatgrass powder to my next batch. Just mix it up a bit!

Cats can eat a small amount of cooked cauliflower. It has minimal phosphorus, but it is anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer.
