Gerald, the alpha

My vet-friend suggested that perhaps Gerald is whiny because he’s an alpha cat. I did not think so initially, but now I think she may be right.

One of the first things Gerald did when I took him in was to “leave his mark” (by peeing) into every litter box he could find, and this includes Tabs’ litter box in the downstairs bathroom.

And I see him peeing into every litter box in Bunny’s Pantry too, much, I’m sure, to the disappointment of the Blondies.

Now, why would one cat need three litter boxes?

Because he’s alpha!

Now, that’s a fierce and intimidating look on his bodyguard, Misty, isn’t it?

Torties are known for being strong-willed and hot-tempered but they can also be affectionate. So far, Misty has been warming up to me, even allowing me to touch her now, which is more than I can say for Minnie or Samantha!
