Gerald’s temperature and blood glucose are DOWN!!

Yay!!

The vet updated this morning that as of last night, Gerald’s temperature had gone down to 39.5 degrees and the blood glucose had gone down from the initial 19.04 to 11. That’s good news. The vet also said he’s much more alert this morning.

The moment I stepped into the clinic, I heard the all-too-familiar yowling!

Gerald’s back to normal!

I brought his soft e-collar and he couldn’t wait to get out! With his usual loud meowing, he definitely appears to be much more alert and cheerful.

We waited for the vet’s while he sat with me on my lap.

The vet further updated that this morning, Gerald’s blood glucose came down further to an almost-normal 9 and his temperature is now normal at 38.6 degrees!

No treatment had been given to specifically lower the glucose level, so it’s good that the level had come down by itself. This most likely means that the elevated glucose was due to the trauma and stress from the injury and not diabetes!

As it stands now, most likely Gerald is NOT diabetic!! That’s really good news. What a relief!

But there is still a “but”….Gerald has not been eating by himself. He didn’t eat by himself last night or this morning, so the clinic staff had been feeding him.

The vet said he has to eat by himself before he can be considered for discharge, so she suggested that I bring his favourite raw chicken gizzards later today.

I’ll be making another trip there again later to see if Gerald would eat his gizzards by himself. Let’s hope he will.
