Gerald’s wound cleaning

This is the right shoulder wound. Initially the wound felt hard, but today, it’s fluidy, which means there is pus now which can be drained.

The draining of the pus in progress. A sample of this pus will be sent for culture to determine exactly what types of bacteria is present.

The vet is also switching one of the antibiotics to a different one today.

Removal of necrotic tissue from the shoulder wound.

This is the paw wound, the abscess already cleaned out. The vet says it doesn’t look “too bad” but a wound in this area would be more painful. X-ray of this wound done and there are no broken bones.

Gerald’s last checked temperature is 40.2 degrees, which means it’s coming down slowly.

I hope Gerald’s wounds will begin to heal now. I asked the vet if the wounds might turn gangrenous. She says the skin might, but not the muscle and tissue inside if the infection is well-controlled. If the skin does, it will just die and fall off and healthy new skin will grow back.

We hope for the best. Please let the healing begin.

Gerald, who did you fight with???
