Gerald’s all-night yowling

There has been no improvement in the department of yowling.

It’s sort of getting worse because Gerald seems to have developed a habit of taking long naps in the day time (when he sleeps, he doesn’t yowl, of course) and then, he’s wide awake at night, so that’s when he yowls.

Last night was quite unbearable. I really worry about disturbing the neighbours, especially when we don’t have a back lane as our houses are back-to-back.

We could barely sleep too so it’s going to be a very exhausting day today.

As discussed earlier with my vet-friend, there is also the mental wellbeing of our other cats. I doubt the Blondies could sleep last night too, with Gerald’s nonstop yowling. And the Monsters would also be affected. In short, everyone within earshot of the yowling would be affected.

My vet-friend did say, albeit jokingly, that perhaps Gerald will learn his lesson (after getting attacked outside) and appreciate staying indoors by not yowling, but by the looks of it, there is absolutely no indication of that happening.

Our vet said she too had experienced a rescued outdoor cat who yowled till no end and finally, the cat had to be released back to the outdoors.

Husband says we would have to release Gerald once he fully recovers from these wounds. I know there are risks of releasing him, but weighing the odds, as it stands now, it’s the wellbeing of so many vs the physical wellbeing of one yowler. And in any case, keeping him confined and yowling isn’t good for his mental health too.

One day at a time, but right now, husband and I are both zombified from the lack of sleep last night.

P.S. Gerald’s shoulder wound looks significantly smaller today. That’s good.
