My plan was way too ambitious – to retrain the Blondies to 100% raw and not be addicted to kibble or hold me at ransom for it.
It failed most miserably for the first two days, until I surrendered because they went on a massive hunger strike.
With so much to cope, I also had no energy left to counter their hunger strike, so I gave in to them and offered their favourite snack – kibble.
It was then that I realised that when I offered kibble, they would go back to eating raw food on their “once-in-two-days” basis, which was what they were doing right from the start. Well, something is better than nothing, right?
So, once-in-two-days it is then, with the occasional bonuses in between!
They used to love cut-up raw chicken meat, and it always worked in place of their refusal to eat Cubgrub or Coco&Joe’s, but recently, they have been refusing it. I wonder why. Could it be that the shop I buy from had changed their supplier? Cats are so sensitive.
So I opted for something else, a new novel protein (one I wish I didn’t have to resort to) – beef chunks. I feel so sorry for the cows, but cats are obligate carnivores. I had to try something, so I did. And yes, they ate it. Everyone, actually, including Riley and Tabs too. The Monsters go without saying – they are always a joy to feed…anything.
Above are Akira, Indra and Samantha eating Cubgrub after I relented and gave them back their kibble snack once a day. Maybe they needed to eat something to get the digestive juices flowing. In any case, I’m not going to let them go on a hunger strike and starve.
Samantha is saying to Kai, “Son, our hunger strike is over…go eat, please. She has learnt her lesson. We won!”.
They liked the beef chunks, but also not on a daily basis. It’s an occasional treat for them. Well, the toughness of the meat is supposed to clean their teeth as well.
For the Monsters, anytime is a good time to eat anything!
What a joy it is to feed them.
