This morning, I saw loose stools in both litter boxes and Kai actually showed me by squatting at the sandpit and defecating. It was jelly-like stools.
Normally, if I’m lucky, the cat will show me by defecating for me to see.
Just to be sure it was only Kai, we checked the CCTV footage of the two litter boxes. Yes, it was only Kai.
So, Kai has loose stools.
For some reason, the entire family conspired to boycott raw food this morning. I don’t know why. Everyone refused to eat raw food. 0%.
I gave Kai, Akira and Indra Healthy Gut probiotic, just to play it safe.
I offered cut-up raw meat, but nobody wanted to eat, so next up was canned chicken. I remember that the plainest food would be best when having loose stools or stomach upset. Our former senior vet always advocated “plain boiled chicken” and small meals throughout the day. So, canned chicken would be suitable. Kai and Akira ate.
There was a bit of loose jelly-like stools from Kai again.
So I gave Kai Pro-Fiber.
Kai stayed in her “sick bay”.
With her mom on top.
But Kai was still hungry and when they heard the sound of kibble for Riley, everyone congregated at the screen door. Sigh…what to do. Kibble it is. Everyone ate so happily and voraciously. I was worried that the kibble would bring on the loose stools again, but surprisingly, it did not.
Hmm…maybe the Blondies’ digestive system doesn’t follow the usual rules? Kai actually ate a lot of kibble as well, which is also breaking all the rules – isn’t it supposed to be small meals throughout the day?
Since Kai had eaten so much, I didn’t offer any food until evening.
Kai and Samantha’s usual routine of grooming each other and sharing manja moments.
I had also already quickly ordered a bottle of Adored Beast Feline Gut Soothe, which works wonders for diarrhoea. This arrived in the evening and I quickly gave some to Kai.
Throughout the day, I checked the litter boxes and sandpits; there were no loose stools. So Kai could tolerate the kibble. I had given them RC’s renal kibble.
For dinner, again, the Blondies didn’t want raw food. Sigh…only Samantha ate.
But everyone was hungry, so kibble again. What to do? The Blondies are all snack-junkies.
They polished up the kibble.
Much later, I offered Kai some Cubgrub Quail (raw food) and he ate a fair amount. Maybe a different protein will help. I gave him some Feline Gut Soothe and some Pro-Fiber again.
Let’s hope the loose stool problem will resolve without needing any vet visit.
Kai is otherwise active and she doesn’t look ill. At least her appetite is still good.
