This morning, Juno didn’t want her usual food. I offered Cubgrub Chicken and then her favourite Quail, but she rejected both.
Then, I tried some kibble and voila…she polished that up!
Uh-oh, is she getting to be choosy and demanding now? I just hope she won’t end up being a kibble-junkie like the Blondies.
I’ve lost the battle with the Blondies lately. For some meals, they simply refuse to eat any raw food, so I have to resort to kibble just so that they won’t starve. It also does not work if I put even one piece of raw meat in with the kibble. They will walk. They are really into ultra-processed food…sigh.
Humans are told to reduce the consumption of ultra-processed foods; it’s not healthy for us. I’m sure the same applies to our pets too. Their biologically-appropriate food is raw. But I’m told that many kibble manufacturers put palatants into their products so that our pets like the food and we keep buying it for them.
Samantha used to be the only one to fulfil my minimum of 25% raw food success rate (one out of four of them), but even now, she’s learning to be like her daughters and not the other way around!
If only they were like the Monsters…if only. The Monsters are on a 100% raw diet. They eat very well. But give them some kibble and they love it too, but, they don’t demand for it by going on a hunger strike as they Blondies do.

She later ate some cut-up raw meat.
Riley is also a kibble-junkie, but at least I can force feed her two raw meals per day. She would even willingly eat it off my finger, but she just won’t eat it on her own. But Riley has another habit where she grazes all day. She eats like a goat. Even with kibble, she cannot eat a lot at one go. She will just eat a few pellets and run off. Then, after half an hour or so, she comes back to ask for more. Grazing all day, like goats and cows grazing in the field. Only that we don’t have a kibble field here!
With the Blondies, on certain days, I get really lucky and can get everyone to eat a decent raw meal. But it also takes a lot of patience to achieve that; I need to coax them and offer the food to be repeatedly, at different locations before I hit the jackpot.
The things we do for them, right?

Don’t become a kibble-junkie, Juno. Please.
