The porch situation

Gerald is still terrified of Creamy.

Yesterday, despite the force feeding for Gerald, he still came back at odd times to ask for meals which he could eat on his own. Poor Gerald. It’s almost like the force feeding didn’t matter; he wanted to eat on his own. So I decided last night that I would probably have to play it by ear. I’d have to feed Gerald whenever he comes alone, when Creamy isn’t around.

The bully eats at his prime spot. Heartily too.

Lizzie comes in too, to eat. Even Lizzie is afraid of Creamy. It must be a case of Creamy’s presence or demeanour. Creamy doesn’t need to growl or hiss or make any noise. He just has to be him and that’s enough to strike fear in Gerald and Lizzie.

Gerald came too and decided he would eat away from Creamy. Here, on the grass in the garden. Well yes, that’s also a good arrangement as long as it doesn’t rain. At least he gets to eat on his own. It’s better than not eating at all. Luckily Creamy doesn’t stay in our porch anymore. He goes off after eating. So, Gerald can come back during such times to ask for food if he’s still hungry.

I have written about this many times but will repeat myself for the sake of new readers. Our former senior vet told me, a very long time ago, that cats can starve to death out of fear of other cats. Hunger cannot overcome fear. Fear is such a powerful emotion. Some people would say and I’ve heard this before, “Just wait, when they are hungry enough, sure they will eat”. No, this is not true, and I’ve seen this countless of times in our cats through the years. That is why when fear is involved, I will resort to other measures to ensure the cat eats.
