Haha….it was sheer luck; for the first time in her life, Akira ate Coco&Joe’s this evening!
Initially, she refused to eat her usual Cubgrub, even when offered at her special preferred place near the sandpit. Just walked away. Okay, fine. I thought it was going to be a kibble meal for her.
The rest ate their raw meals while Akira sat at the lookout where I could not reach.
As I was packing up I decided to just try my luck. Akira had come down to the top of the cage, so I offered a bowl of Cubgrub again, almost expected her to walk away again, which is normal.
She ate! Okay, good, good. I kept topping up until the whole bottle was finished (it wasn’t a full bottle to begin with). But it looked like she still wanted to eat.
Now, what did I have? Only Coco&Joe’s Rabbit Recipe. So I took a chance and just gave her a teaspoon of it. Of course she would sniff at it and walk away as she has done all her life, right?
Haha…no! She ate it up! So I kept adding teaspoon by teaspoon and she ended up eating quite a bit too!
Wow….that’s history in the making for Akira!!

Well done, good girl! Did you know you ate some Coco&Joe’s today, Akira?
She reminds me of how difficult it was to transition Heidi to raw food when I made the decision to transition all our cats (mostly senior ones) to 100% raw food way back in September 2019. Before that, all our cats were on a rojak diet, meaning, they had raw, canned, homecooked and kibble. Semua taruh. I had read up so much literature and heard so much about the raw diet being the most biologically appropriate food for obligate carnivores like cats, so I decided to make the 100% transition in September 2019. Pole and Cleo took to it naturally, like, “What took you so long to give us our proper food?” Everyone took a few days to transition, everyone but Heidi. She was the most difficult.
Heidi started by refusing to even come into the kitchen to eat when she smelled raw food. From that, to coming in to eat her canned food while the rest ate raw. Then, a small bit into her bowl, then a teaspoon, finally, it took a whole month before she totally converted to 100% raw and I thought that was long enough! But what a success!! I can still remember the day she ate an entire bowl of raw food. It was a totally unexpected event, and I even thought that perhaps she’s so old that she didn’t realise it was raw food, and just ate!
Now, the Blondies are even harder; but not exactly harder, because they were brought up on raw food. Then, they discovered the tastiness of this wonderful thing called kibble that is crunchy and full of palatants to make it absolutely delicious! From 100% raw, they started demanding for kibble. Because at the time of the Blondies’ childhood, we already had our Super Seniors like Cow, Bunny, Cleo and Indy, who qualified to eat anything they wanted due to being, well, Super Seniors with terminal conditions. Their appetites weren’t excellent, so I had to offer all kinds of food to get them to eat, including kibble. That’s how the Blondies discovered kibble and started demanding for it.
As for raw food, Akira was the fussiest in that she would only eat Cubgrub, and lately, only Cubgrub Chicken and nothing else. She had been refusing to eat Coco&Joe’s.
So, today is, indeed, a breakthrough! The way Akira just ate up the Coco&Joe’s reminded me exactly of Heidi – it was as though it was no big deal. She just ate it up!
Hooray!
It was sheer luck. Will she eat it again? Who knows? Carpe diem!
