The issue of what food to feed our cats has been on my mind ever since Juno got infected with coccidiosis. I’ve been doing a lot of reading too.
Of course, it all comes back to the few schools of thought – raw is the most species-appropriate, but raw may have foodborne disease, so go for cooked, canned and/or kibble. But kibble is dry and that’s not good especially for cats. And how bio-available are the ingredients in processed and ultra-processed food?
So, I dug out my old home-cooked recipe for cat food, which I used to make a long time ago, and made a batch this evening. I figured there’s nothing to lose, some of them might take to it? I was thinking especially for the Blondies and Juno, actually. The Blondies don’t like raw. Juno has to eat cooked food or kibble until she is older because of her not-so-strong immunity to overcome parasites in raw food.

This is one batch, using my pressure cooker. I must say, the aroma is really fragrant. I used five chicken whole legs and 1.5 chicken breasts. There’s some pumpkin, carrot and spirulina powder and three eggs. There’s also taurine and Vitamin E.
I tried it on the Blondies first. After all, it was made with them in mind.

They crowded around me, but only Samantha ate. The other three fuss-pots avoided it like they would raw food. What’s with you three? You don’t like anything that’s wet? Don’t you know you are a cat and you need moisture in your food? Well, obviously, they don’t. They just want crunchy kibble.
Never mind, I’ll try Ginger and the Monsters. Lately, the Monsters have been occasionally walking away from raw food too. So maybe they need a change of taste and texture once in a while.

Oooh…they loved it!
The Monsters are our best cats when it comes to eating. They actually practically eat anything, but I can see they love this homecooked food. Smurfy was up on the platforms, as he is apt to do these days, sometimes avoiding a meal completely.

Until the aroma drew him down – hah, nice food, eh, Smurfy?

Ginger loved it the most and had three helpings. Oops, what happened to your weight loss plan, Ginger? Sapu habis. What a treat for him and the Monsters!! Made me so happy.

Tabs just licked a little bit. Not too interested in it. You’d notice that Riley is not in the picture. She’s still upstairs and I bet she won’t eat it. Her taste is pretty much like the Blondies. It’s just that I can finger-feed her raw food. Given a choice, Riley would want to graze all day on kibble.

Yups, urban food for our urban Blondies. Eat to your hearts’ content, Blondies!
I offered some to Juno too, but she wasn’t interested at all. But I’ve also just fed her ID, so maybe she’s not hungry now.
