This morning at 6.00am, Juno passed out blood-tinged, formed but slightly soft stools. This looked like a setback as the stools had been well-formed though a bit soft since Sunday morning, and by late last night, the stools were already hardening up too.
However, she’s active, alert and her appetite is fantastic.
Shortly after breakfast, she went to the litter-box again, and this time, there was slightly soft stools again (well-formed) but I saw feathers from her stick toy in the faeces. There were bits of the plasticky rachis too (the middle part (stem) of the feather).
Oh dear…she must be eaten the feathers last night.
I checked the stick toy and true enough…

I estimate about 5cm of straggly feathers, which Juno must have eaten last night. Sigh…
But from the feathers I found in the faeces, I think that’s about it. Hopefully she has passed out all of them.

Juno, oh Juno.

Her appetite is fantastic, though. She had already eaten three rounds of breakfast this morning. First, canned food, next two was kibble.
I have now placed her stick toy high up where she cannot reach, but I’ve also cut off the remaining parts which has the plastic rachis.

To be on the safe side, I removed this feather from her “golf course”. I call this cat tree her “golf course” because it really looks like one! But poor thing, she loves this little golf course and often sits on it and plays with the feather and the bell.

And there’s this feather on the scratch board which she also loves.
I will pull out these feathers when I’m not around. But when I’m in the house, I can hear the bell if she plays with them. So that’s one task I’ll do for now. Later, I will examine the feathers closely and remove any part that may be plasticky.

Will be monitoring her and her faeces for today.
Are we out of the woods yet with the gut infection? I don’t know if the blood in the stools this morning is related to the gut infection or the feather-swallowing. But whatever it is, the stools are still not as hard as we would like it to be. So we still have some way to go.
I’ve given her steamed pumpkin and probiotics this morning. I hope this helps too.
