Smurfy to vet’s (loose stools)

I managed to get an appointment for Smurfy today.

The vet checked and Smurfy’s temperature is normal, but his gut sounds quite gassy. There was insufficient fecal sample from the thermometer to check for anything though the slide was prepared and looked at under a microscope.

It is probably a tummy upset like Ginger’s due to ingestion of something that triggered it. Smurfy has been eating mostly kibble these days, so I don’t know what could have triggered this episode. Let’s hope the rest of the Monsters don’t end up with diarrhoea too.

The vet prescribed Promax (probioitic) for six days. Smurfy was dewormed today and is to be dewormed again in two weeks’ time. I will continue giving him the Kaolin-Pectin until his stools are well-formed.

The vet says it is not advisable to put Smurfy on antibiotics as that would destroy the good flora in his gut, and I agree, unless there is evidence of any infection.

Back from the vet’s. The fact that I was even able to get him down, catch him and put him into a carrier in less than a minute was already a lottery-strike!

Smurfy below, Minnie above.

I hope this episode will be resolved with this treatment and I really hope no one else will get diarrhoea.
