Tabs – 13 years with us!

It was on the night of 6th December 2011 that Tabs sauntered into our porch, our house, paid homage by touching noses with Bobby (she knows he’s the boss!) and adopted us!

Here’s the night that Tabs came: https://animalcare.my/2011/12/16/a-new-kid-on-the-block-2/

Her timing was right in that we moved from that house to our present neighbourhood in early January 2012, so I managed to get Tabs spayed before moving.

It’s coming to 13 years now!

Some time late 2023, during a regular routine check-up, Tabs was discovered to be in Stage 3 CKD. An ultrasound showed that she actually has polycystic kidney disease which had brought on the chronic kidney disease, so it’s called PCKD. She has probably had it all her life, being a cat with some pedigree in her (British shorthair). We just didn’t know as there were no symptoms; not like we could have done anything about it either because there is no cure for PKD, only palliative care.

Tabs has since undergone stemcell therapy (which may not have helped much), but she is also on palliative care which includes a daily subcut of 150ml, Renal Combi, Oligosaccharide Chitosan, Astro Oil’s fish oi, Astro Oil’s NC-Scrub, Hyaflex (for arthritis) and daily probiotics. In her last check-up, her readings showed an elevation of creatinine, but the vet placed her at Stage 2 PCKD, which is good enough. She’s been at Stage 2 ever since the subcut started.

She gets to eat as often as she likes as she only takes small meals. But otherwise, she’s as “normal” as any other cat, probably not even knowing that she is “not well”.

Well, “not perfect” health-wise, but well enough to enjoy life.

13 years and counting, Tabs!

We love you!!!
