I was out getting groceries and the grass-cutters were here. Normally, they are very careful, but the assistant was careless today and Ginger escaped.
When I came back, I saw husband with the kibble jar on the main road outside our area. Oh dear…this means someone had escaped and I feared it was Juno, but it wasn’t. He said it was Ginger.
The story is that Ginger escaped, but both the grass-cutters actually went into the drain and managed to catch him. But being unfamiliar with cats and not knowing how to hold a cat, they were holding him in a very awkward and possibly traumatising way. So husband asked them to give Ginger to him in the porch, but Ginger was already very angry (or scared) by then, so he bit husband very badly, twice, until husband had to let go. All bleeding and the works (now gone to the clinic for treatment).
Ginger then tried to run back to his catio, but the gate was closed. From there, he scaled Stargate (yes, Ginger scaled it), went onto the ledge and went towards the back to Bunny’s Place.
Husband went upstairs to open a window in each of the back bedrooms while Ginger was on our roof. But he refused to come in.
That was what I was told. Husband had already gone to the back road to look for him and alerted the neighbour directly behind us (a bit of a story here afterwards – that’s Creamy’s home!).
By the time I reached home, the grass-cutter was very apologetic and he explained what happened. He too had gone onto the roof to look for Ginger, but Ginger was nowhere to be seen.
Normally, when Ginger escapes, he would hang out inside the drain on our road, but this time, probably due to fear, he has gone to the back. But I think he will come back when he is ready. He has escaped numerous times in the past, earning the nickname “longkang cat” but he had always come back. It is just when.
The last time he escaped, he actually came back very, very quickly. Bored with being a longkang cat, probably.
This time, perhaps he wants a day out.
I off-loaded all my groceries and drove to the back road to look for him with the kibble jar. I did not see him anywhere. I went to Creamy’s house, he was sitting very majestically in his porch and I asked Creamy to tell Ginger to come home if he sees him.
I walked up and down that back road but Ginger was nowhere to be seen.
Now I’m home, already done the “Chinese Kitchen God” ritual and all the Monsters are on high alert. Their mentor has escaped (or “gone out”). I told the Monsters to tell Ginger to come home soon.
I’ve also alerted one kind neighbour and all the security guards. Luckily I have so many of Ginger’s photos.
Come back home, Ginger.
