Here’s the secret, uncovered after 60 years of research: https://www.sciencealert.com/the-secret-of-orange-cats-finally-uncovered-after-60-year-search
And it says: Orange cats happen to have a hilarious reputation for not being the brightest of their species.
What??!!
What do our orange cats say about that?

Ginger is actually super smart but he’s very good at pretending to be not-so-smart.

Kai…okay, fine. Not exactly our smartest cat.

Indra also falls into the same category, but that being said, both are reasonably obedient in that we can get them to go back into Bunny’s Place from the Safehouse.
However, all the three Blondies and this includes Akira, are still not litter-box trained. They pee wherever they like. Yes, still! And they like to eat near their sandpit (their toilet) and they also poop near their water bowl – both of which are not very smart and not very feline-like at all. Brought them up on a raw diet, but now they want to eat an ultra-processed diet of kibble. Definitely not in touch with their primal instincts. So, yes, not the brightest of our cats. But we love ’em just the way they are!

Gerald – their father. Smart or not so smart? Well, he still yowls and meows a lot, wasting all his energy and getting nothing. He yowls before meals, after meals, anytime he likes. That’s really not very smart. But he did help us find Ginger that day – that was super smart!
