Trying out B2N canned food for our cats, and back to all-favourite Monge canned

I’ve used B2N (Back2Nature) canned food for our cats before. The verdict is lukewarm and after awhile, they did not like it anymore.

The good thing about B2N canned food is that it’s a complete food (no wonder they don’t like it, right?). Many canned food brands are complementary food. This means it is to be used as a snack, not a staple food. Complementary food does not contain the full nutritional profile for that particular species. That is why it’s so important to read the ingredients list.

But again, if we were to split hairs, who determines the nutritional profile for cats or dogs? Humans, right? How much do we know? We only think we know a lot! But let’s not go there…

I was very sad to know that Cindy’s Recipe’s Signature (complete food, carrageenan-free and FEDIAF compliant) has been discontinued. Our cats used to eat that too. Then, there’s Monge’s Monoprotein and Chunky Pouches which are complete foods too, these are also discontinued now. Monge is Italy’s top pet food.

Oh well…

We make do with whatever is available to us.

I bought this specially for Juno because she needs fiber, but guess what, she didn’t like it much.

Instead, Tabs loved it!

I offered Fur/Ball and B2N to the Blondies. That’s Kai and Akira. By the way, in the background, you’d notice they have destroyed one part of the cat tree.

Surprise, surprise, Gerald loved it and sapu habis. Even asked for a second helping. I’m quite surprised because complete meals are usually not as tasty as complementary food. It would be so good if Gerald likes it because it’s a complete meal. The raw gizzards and cut chicken he gets isn’t a balanced meal. Still nutritious, but not balanced.

I bought the two kitten flavours for Juno, she already doesn’t like the one with fibre. I will try the one with inulin later. The one with sardine is bought for everyone else. As for fish, I always try to go for the smaller fishes (less heavy metals), hence sardines or mackerel. Tuna is a big fish and on the contaminated fish list, but most of our canned cat food contains tuna.

I also bought Monge. Our previous batch of cats grew up on Monge before I jumped onto the raw food bandwagon. Now, we are going back to Monge as one of the brands. It’s the No. 1 brand in Italy, but the canned food is manufactured in Thailand. Still, the importer has gone to the factory and observe their manufacturing practices. But the Monge available in our country contains rice. So it isn’t grain free.

None of our cats says no to Monge.

But Akira still said no. Punya susah this girl….

Tabs absolutely loved it!

All said, please be informed that my dear friend’s cats refuse to eat Monge. They would even pick out all the shredded meat and put it aside to show their displeasure.

So, to each their own, truly!!

At least now, we have a variety to offer to all our cats and are not limited by just two brands of balanced raw food. Our cats, unfortunately, had come to a point where they just refuse to eat the raw food. So feeding was stressful for them and me as well. Now, with a variety of cooked foods (plus the occasional raw food) to offer them, feeding has, once again, become a pleasurable and joyful activity.

Juno loves it too!

Juno has been confined in Bunny’s Place all day today because the boys are here. Jayden comes into the room to play with her. We cannot risk Juno escaping out to the front porch if the front door is opened without supervision.
