Sardines and mackerel for the cats’ dinner

After scouting around, I finally managed to find a pet store that sells these products.

Yes, as expected, there is gelling agent (am waiting for the importer to find out for me if it’s guar gum or carrageenan), so I tried to remove as much of the gel as possible. Tabs just couldn’t wait, she must have smelled the fishy aroma. Riley ate too.

I offered it to Creamy and Gerald along with their gizzards and cut chicken, but they left the canned fish uneaten.

“Don’t you know that fish is not our ancestral food? And don’t you know we only come for the gizzards and cut chicken??”

Surprise, surprise…here are the Blondies. Not a sapu habis, but at least that’s Akira eating some wet food, which is too rare.

Juno ate some, but was not crazy about it.

The Monsters had a feast!! I added cut beef to top their plates of fish.

I have not decided if I would use this as a treat to replace a meal once in a while. It would depend on whether the gelling agent is guar gum or carrageenan.

Very important: Cats must never eat raw fish, only cooked fish. This is because raw fish contains thiaminase which destroys the Vit B in their bodies and it can lead to severe neurological issues.

Fish is also not an ancestral food for cats. The ancestors of domestic cats, primarily desert-dwelling wildcats, ate rodents, birds, and small mammals, not fish, meaning fish was not a natural part of their diet. This may explain why cats cannot eat raw fish but they can eat raw birds and mammals.

Cats may have developed a taste for fish because humans fed it to them. Kucing makan ikan?
