Kampung Harvest cruelty-free eggs!

I’ve been promoting Kampung Harvest eggs for many years now, actually, more than 10 years.

So it happened that a loyal AnimalCare follower and dear friend was asking me today and she seemed to have missed all my posts about Kampung Harvest eggs!

So, I’m writing about it again now.

Kampung Harvest’s founders are my friend, Ivan Ho and his sister, Phui Ling. We met more than 10 years ago when we held events at the temple to raise funds for AnimalCare and Ivan would be selling vegetables from the old folks’ home where he taught the old folks to plant their own vegetables to be self-sustainable and also to add meaning and purpose to their lives.

Soon after, Ivan set up his own farm in Gombak. And fast forward to the present, he has a 20-acre farm in Kuala Kubu Bharu and Slim River. His farming principles and concepts are still exactly the same – everything is cruelty-free, and he gives back to the eco-system.

Most importantly, since we consume his eggs, his hens are all happy hens who get to live on for the rest of their natural lives. The eggs are not fertilised.

Many people do not know that when they buy “kampung eggs”, those hens are often sent for slaughter when they can no longer produce eggs. It’s the same with dairy cows too. It’s all very, very sad, how humans use the animals and then, when they are no longer productive, they are sent for slaughter. It’s horrible.

Ivan currently has cows too and his cows get to live on as well. They produce milk and he will be making butter and cheese from the milk.

This is what I wrote in 2016 and Ivan confirms he still embraces the same principles and concepts

These hens love gatherings. They come together during the day, foraging for food on grassy fields or just relaxing. At night, they snug themselves warm and safe by resting closely with one another. The only private moment for them is when they are laying eggs. Once the egg rolls out, the hen SCREECHES… to announce her completion of her egg laying deed and off she goes, joining her flock once more.

Our Fowl
During the day, the hens move in flocks to look for food. They saunter among grasses, scratching the grounds, checking on nooks and crannies to find lovely meals awaiting. Plenty to feast on – weeds, seeds, fruits, nut as well as worms and insects – all of these are part and parcel of their daily diet. Some days, wild grass clippings and tubers that are inoculated with probiotics are placed in fields for the hens to feed on to help strengthen their overall friendly gut bacteria for better health and well-being.

After a day’s work, to wind down, the hens indulge in luxurious dust baths, relishing the cool breeze while being embraced by the evening sun – as Nature would have it.

Kampung Harvest Free Range, Individually Selected, Non Fertilized Eggs.

The farmers gather the eggs in the hen house during the break of day while the hens are out at play. Into a basket, the fresh eggs go.

At Kampung Harvest Home, each egg is held and felt to ensure only weighty ones with no crack are placed on the egg cartons. This is the trust you receive from every carton that comes from Kampung Harvest.

I get my Kampung Harvest eggs from either Organic Fresh Mart in SS18 or Vitafoods, also in SS18.

If you are not able to get the eggs at your local store, please contact Ivan (019-375-1382) or Phui Ling (012-5900-023).

Let’s support compassionate farming!
