Did you know that poop is “fortune” to the olden-day Chinese?

My friend just shared something cultural with me this morning.

She’s schooled in Chinese tradition, so she really knows what she is talking about.

This banana has lots to learn!

So she shared with me that in olden-day China, poop (yes, faeces) is considered very “fortunate” and if children went to their neighbours’ house to use the toilet, they would be scolded upon their return.

The saying is “Si wai choy” (in Cantonese). No kidding.

The reason is very common-sensical: Olden-day Chinese were agragian (depended on agricultural), so they used faeces as fertiliser. The more fertiliser, the more bountiful their harvest, the more wealth they would have. And Chinese people are obsessed with wealth, aren’t they?

So, the more your cats and dogs poop, the more fortunate you will be!

And this is something I absolutely agree with, because one of the greatest health, in my opinion, is to be able to poop and pee, isn’t it? Imagine if you cannot poop and pee, how much you will suffer…

Right?

You want to keep traditions, keep this one, please! “Si Wai Choy, Kung Hei Fatt Choy!”

Consider yourself SO lucky and fortunate that you get to scoop poop from the litter box on the first day of CNY! What a prosperous start to a great year!!
