Day 2 of my homecooked cat food!

A bit more success today!

Would you believe this? Juno is eating some of my homecooked food mixed with some canned tuna!  Miracles of miracles!

For new readers, I started Juno off with raw food the day I brought her back from the middle of the road (after a vet’s visit, of course). She was doing really well until she contracted coccidia infection from the raw food. Coccidia is found in lifestock (especially in the intestines and also in the liver).  Normally, it will not harm the animal unless the animal has poor immunity and/or is below 6 months of age. As many newborns as I have fostered in the past, this was my first case of coccidia infection and Juno had it pretty bad. Luckily she survived with IV-medicines, fluids and a lot of care. From then on, no more raw food for her.

Juno’s also smart. As much as she loved raw food previously, she also stopped eating it herself. So I transitioned her (quite easily) to cooked food and she took a liking to kibble as well.

Then, I read the warning about the possibility of the bird flu becoming the next pandemic and I’m one who likes to be ready for such things. All our more senior cats (Ginger and the Monsters) are on 100% raw food. So I started training them to eat cooked food. I need to be prepared for any eventuality that they cannot eat raw food anymore, at least they are used to cooked food too.

Hence, my quest to get quality cooked food, which I found in Fur/Ball and now, I’m trying PledgeCare. And I decided to make my own cat food at home too. I’ve done this before last time, so I just used back the time-tested recipe.

Tabs liked the homecooked cat food too. But not for Riley. She’s still a kibble queen. Riley will eat raw food and certain brands of canned food.

The Blondies are junkies, so I need to add these toppers from PledgeCare to any cooked or canned food. They will eat raw, though, but they need toppers for canned and cooked. Fusspots!

Now, going to try this with the fussy Blondies. It is homecooked food with canned tuna and topped with the meat toppers.

Hmm…this is a good and unexpected.  Indra is going for the cooked food and leaving the raw food.

Everyone is here now. Who is that extra ginger cat? Why, it’s Gerald! He likes the homecooked food, which is a bonus, because Gerald really prefers raw food. Rare to find the whole family together in one shot, isn’t it?

Finally, the two bowls of homecooked food is finished! The raw food has some leftovers, which normally does not happen.

I know, I should not mix kibble with wet food. But I’ve tested that the tummy upset does not happen with every cat. It’s okay for the Blondies, but not okay for Ginger. Ginger simply cannot eat “mixed” foods, it’s either all kibble or all wet food.

I’m glad Ginger absolutely loves my homecooked food. It’s made with him and Tabs in mind – lots of water.

Minnie also loves it!  I guess once they grow older, they know what’s best for them.
