Early morning portraits of Ginger and the Monsters!

We nicknamed Minnie’s family “the Monsters” because they are so big!

In no way is the nickname meant in a derogatory manner. I have to explain myself because on two occasions, I was told that the cute names I had given our cats were derogatory in the English Language.

The first from my first rescued newborns, Cow Mau. I was told by a vet the “Cow” was derogatory and it is a word used to scold people. Oh, really? I did not know this. That is how “Cow” became “Cow Mau”. Intially his name was just plain and simple: Cow. And this was because he was black-and-white with “cow spots”.

Next was Vixey, our dear little pygmy kitten who was rescued from the rubbish heap in the playground. It was also another vet who said “Vixey” is derogatory and meant as a term to describe women who were lacking in morality. Huh, really? Vixen?

Why oh why do humans use animal words to scold others? That’s an insult to the animals, really. I often hear people saying, “Worse than animals” to describe cruel humans. Hey, hello? Please don’t insult the animals, okay? Cruel humans are cruel because they are humans. Period. Animals are not cruel.

Ok, enough said. What’s in a name? A rose by any name would smell as sweet.

Now, the portraits of our dear Monsters:

Rey (4 years 8 months old)

Robin (4 years 8 months old)

Lynx (4 years 8 months)

Smurfy (5 years old)

Minnie (their mother, estimated around 6 years old)

Ginger (their beloved “uncle”, 15 years old)
