The cause of Gerald’s incessant yowling identified!!

Breaking news, folks!

We now know why Gerald yowls incessantly and persistently!!

The cause of his yowling is….

…me.

Yes, it’s me.

Gerald yowls or mews just to get my attention. And he’s super persistent in doing it. He wants my attention solely for himself.

So, just get rid of me and the yowling will stop. As simple as that.

Husband has observed repeatedly that if I am not at home, Gerald is totally quiet. It doesn’t matter if I’ve confined him in Bunny’s Room or he is in the porch, he will be quiet when I’m not around. But the moment he senses I’m home, he will start yowling.

Nowadays whenever I walk in the morning and if Gerald wants to follow me, I’ll just scoop him up and put him in Bunny’s Room where I am sure he is safe. Otherwise, there’s always the danger of the road in front of our house, the selfish kindy parents who speed down the road (they don’t speed when their children are in the car, they only speed after they have dropped off their children and that is my stretch of the road – that is why I say they are “selfish”) and Gerald will keep mewing in the park until I get back, which is disturbing to many of the walkers. One particular walker is a very kind elderly man and he is always worried why Gerald is mewing non-stop. How do I explain that Gerald is just a very vocal cat who likes to talk?

With some luck, after enough mewing, he will settle down.

But the moment he knows I’m home, the mewing starts again.

Tired after all the mewing? Yes, this is his afternoon siesta.

So, if I am the cause of Gerald’s mewing, the solution is to get rid of me. How am I going to get rid of me? If I get rid of me, who is going to look after all our other cats? Or for that matter, who is going to look after Gerald??

Another solution is to rehome him to a house that is 100% escape-proof, but there is no guarantee he won’t yowl and mew for his new parent later on. No, there is no guarantee of that.
