I went down to the guardhouse this morning to check on Kelly and she came trotting towards me when she saw me.
The guard has already fed her breakfast and he said her appetite is good, so that’s reassuring. I checked her wound; it’s very nice and dry.
She is a super manja cat.
After ensuring everything is fine, I walked back home, but Kelly started trotting after me.
The guard said she had never ventured “so far up” before, so I stopped and stayed with her. I was also worried about the traffic. We have several incorrigible speedsters in our neighbourhood. It’s the type of humans who’d rather be fined for speeding than to slow down. There’s something about having “power” behind the wheel. I do not understand this mentality, but I do know their way of driving is definitely endangering street animals, pedestrians and other motorists.
Kelly stayed, so I carried her back to the guardhouse. But when I walked back up the road, she trotted after me again until I went off to another road hoping she would go back to the guardhouse, but she did not. She followed me.
So I did what any reasonable person would do….
…I brought her home. She did not even struggle when I carried her through unfamiliar territory nor did she struggle to be free when we came back to our porch and Creamy and Gerald were right there. I quickly texted the guard to let him know I’ve brought Kelly back to my house and that she’s safe.
Now, I learnt something today. When Kelly spent the day and overnight in Bunny’s Place after her surgery, nobody bullied her. They just left her alone, but today?
Oh no…
Samantha and Kai did the “wolf pack” routine on her. They surrounded her and cornered her into Bunny’s Tunnel. She’s under the planters’ trays in the photo above. Samantha and Kai were doing a low growl.
So, now that Kelly has healed, she’s “fair game”? When she wasn’t well, they left her alone.
That’s the feline code of ethics for you. In a way, it’s “fair”. Law of the Jungle?
So I brought Kelly out. I didn’t want her to be bullied or stressed out by Samantha and Kai.
I had to feed Creamy so I put her into the bathroom for a few minutes. Juno came to touch noses with her, but both started growling at each other.
She’s now inside the house (the “Safehouse”) where Tabs, Riley and Juno reside.
Tabs is fine. She’s fine with anyone as long as they keep their distance. I think Riley should be fine too.
Does she want to go home to the guardhouse?
She’s not afraid to eat now. That’s good.
A treat for her.
She still prefers Monge kibble!
Now, she’s taking a nap under the table.
Meanwhile, I’m checking with people who have fed her before to understand her history. That would give me a better idea on whether Kelly wants to be in a home or prefers to be free.
Ultimately, a cat chooses, right?
My problems are:
- The Blondies are alpha and most likely territorial. Kai and Indra are bullies.
- Will the Monsters accept her? Can she stay there? She looks so much like Daffodil (Ginger’s mother) but it is not about looks, it’s about affinity.
- Tabs and Riley seem okay with her presence. There was some growling between Juno and her earlier on.
- I need to find a godmother for every one of my cats in case I die before them. I haven’t even found one for Juno yet.
Will play it by ear.
