I’ve been trying very hard to reduce Ginger’s food intake. Vet’s orders – he needs to lose some weight.
But it’s been a complete failure so far. If he doesn’t get to eat to his heart’s (or stomach’s) content, he waits at the screen door with “that look”. If you are a cat or dog parent, you know what I mean. It’s that look where you just cannot say “no” to.
Today, Ginger and the Monsters had breakfast and I tried very hard not to give them their post-breakfast snack. This is not easy because the Blondies always have a post-breakfast snack. And this is only because not every Blondie will eat their proper breakfast, especially Akira. So, the post-breakfast snack must be given to them and as a result of this, Ginger and the Monsters will also ask for theirs. Today, I tried not giving it to them and that failed. Ginger waited at the screen door and wouldn’t budge. He even mewed.
So, as compensation, he got a trip into the house. I was hoping to distract him from his hunger.
I did ask the vet, though, surely if he asks for food, it means he hasn’t had enough, right? Animals don’t over-eat like us humans, do they? My vet laughed and disagreed with me completely! Oh well…
Did the trip into the house manage to distract him?
NO, absolutely not!
It ended up with everyone having an early dinner at 3pm! And I mean, everyone! Including the Blondies.
What a total failure!!
And did the 3pm meal count as “dinner”. Of course not! They had another dinner at 6.45pm, plus their after-dinner snack.
Now, everyone’s happy.
