Steamed chicken broth for our cats

I was discussing with Puan Aminah about what she feeds her cats and also if her cats liked the food we had contributed, and she reminded me about making homemade chicken broth for our cats. She makes it for her cats regularly and her indoor cats love it.

I used to make chicken broth and bone broth for our cats too, but I did not do it regularly because not all our cats liked it. And also, bone broth in rich in minerals and is not suitable for CKD cats, but meat broth would be.

So, yesterday, I steamed chicken breast meat with water and made some chicken broth. Samantha really liked it a lot (that was a pleasant surprise!) and later, Ginger and Smurfy ate some too. All three ate up the steamed meat as well. But the rest did not like it.

Today, I specially bought chicken whole leg to make the chicken broth. I first offered it to Tabs, but she didn’t think it was food. Then to Riley, who, as expected, walked away. Juno couldn’t be found, she has a knack of disappearing somewhere in the house during the hot afternoons for long naps and in any case, I do not think Juno would have liked it either. So I went to the Blondies. None of the three girls were interested, but Samantha was.

She first lapped up all the broth – that’s good! And by the time I came to collect the plate, would you believe it? All the meat was gone too. It was sapu habis!

After giving about a quarter to Samantha, this much is left for Ginger and the Monsters.

This time, Ginger, Minnie, Smurfy and Rey (yes, even Rey!) started eating. Lynx wasn’t interested. But the one who needs it the most, Robin, didn’t even bother coming down from the cat tree.

There he is. Sigh… Robin is the one who needs hydration the most because he has had FLUTD before.

Minnie was the last cat standing. She really liked the broth. Ginger liked it too.

I waited but no, Robin showed zero interest. Oh well, one could hope, couldn’t one? So I went back to the kitchen to clean up.

Then I came out and this was what I saw…

Oh my, oh my…it’s Robin! Robin is eating the cooked chicken! I don’t know if any broth was left (I doubt it), but Robin eating cooked chicken is a cause for celebration. Before this, Robin only wants cut raw chicken or dental kibble. He didn’t want anything else. He’s the fussiest of the Monsters. And if I were to add even the tiniest bit of water to his food, he would walk off. Now, here he is, eating chicken meat from chicken broth!!

To be sure it was Robin (and not Rey), I went nearer to check the tail. Yes, it’s Robin, alright! That’s his tell-tale tail. I didn’t even dare to go out to take a photo in case he runs away.

He went from plate to plate, eating up the remainders.

Great!!
