Today and tomorrow, the guard is on leave, so I will be feeding Kelly all day.

Kelly seemed really hungry this morning. She ate the canned food and then, some kibble too.
I had already planned with the daytime guard to get the night guard to leave some kibble in the morning before he finishes his shift, but I guess he did not do it. The water too was not refreshed. But that’s okay, because I was there early this morning to do it. It’s not easy to rely on others to perform animal-related tasks unless they really care for the animals.
This replacement daytime guard has no interest in Kelly. But he did talk with me and asked me how much cat food costs. It’s good enough (and I’m thankful) that he did not mind Kelly’s presence in the area.
I totally understand that among humans, animal-lovers are always a minority, so it’s not easy to get things done. It’s not like human charity projects where humans are more keen to lend a hand to help. This is inter-species caring, extending love across the boundaries of species. It’s not so easy and we have to keep our expectations really low (or at zero!).
Even when I feed Kelly, I notice the faces of the drivers who pass by the guardhouse when I’m there. Very rarely would you see someone who smiles with approval. I have stopped looking at their faces.

Forget about the humans, Kelly. Let’s play.

Stay safe now, Kelly.
It rained before noon, so I went down to check on Kelly after the rain had stopped.

She was very excited to see me, but when I offered kibble, she didn’t want any of it.

No amount of coaxing worked either.
So I had to walk back to get canned food.
On the way back, Gerald was waiting for me.

I added some toppers for her too, to make it more exciting. She ate hungrily. Outdoor cats get more hungry than indoor ones. Gerald is also a big eater.

After almost finishing the canned food, she went for the kibble. Dua-dua mahu.
Kelly’s dinner was at 6.20pm. I’ve learnt by now that Kelly associates me with canned food, so I make sure I bring a can of food whenever I feed her, regardless of how many times a day!

Yes, eat up for the night, Kelly.

She must be quite full. Did not finish the whole can or the kibble I left at lunch.

I’ll see you tomorrow morning, Kelly.
The night guard should be here soon and he’s supposed to feed Kelly some kibble too.
