I had a discussion with the vet over Pole’s tendency in getting FIC/FLUTD. The vet says it is likely due to stress.
Pole cannot take Cystaid Plus as she seemed to be allergic to one of the ingredients in it and it caused her to have vomiting for the entire month that she was on it. The moment we finished the course, her vomiting stopped. That was more than a month ago now. There is another PetDiatrics product for UTI but I don’t want to take the risk of Pole getting any untoward side effect from it again.
Each time she gets it, she has to go on antibiotics and an anti-inflammatory, and the problem will be resolved within a few hours, but because it is antibiotics, I have to make her finish the whole course. The liquid antibiotics (Clavamox) is fine, but the little blue Beazyme tablet is a great stress for Pole as she doesn’t like being pilled and will fight back. I’m also worried about her having to go on antibiotics as that’s not good for her kidneys. I asked the vet if she could just have a dose of Prazosin as that seemed the help this time. The vet said it’s possible. But in any case, any drug/medication for Pole is not good because of her kidney condition.
So, the vet said to just keep her stress level down. Try Feliway. Her FIC is most likely caused by stress.
So we will Feliway Pole’s places for about a month and hope that it helps.
I’m also buying the refill for the Feliway diffuser.
