I guess we had been so busy with the Greystoke kittens that we didn’t notice that Tabs had lost weight until Jia-Wen and Sihui remarked that Tabs “looked smaller” during one of their visits last month. That’s when I weighed Tabs and noticed that she had indeed lost weight.
Granted, Tabs used to be slightly overweight and passed the 5kg mark. Now, she hovers between 4.5kg and 4.8kg. I have been monitoring her weight almost on a daily basis and it is around 4.6kg.
We also know that Tabs has been very stressed by the Greystoke kittens. For some reason, she just doesn’t like them. If they are in the kitchen for meals, sometimes, she refuses to come in and I would have to feed her elsewhere. Or, if she is eating halfway and they come around, she gets agitated and would stop eating.
Maybe it’s due to stress. But we decided not to take any chances so we took Tabs for a check-up today.
The vet did not find anything seriously wrong except that Tabs has a slight galloping heart rhythm or a murmur. Unfortunately, the test for the heart has been out of stock for sometime now, so we couldn’t get the test done.
A blood test was done and everything is normal except for a slightly elevated urea reading (which could be due to her raw diet) and a slightly elevated ALT (liver enzyme) reading. For the latter, the vet prescribed Cordy Hep-C on an alternate day basis. Recheck in two months.
Tabs’ PCV was 45%, so that’s good. No worries of anaemia.
It wasn’t possible to collect any urine today as Tabs’ bladder was very small, so if I could get a urine sample anytime later, a USG and UPC should be done as a routine check. But there is no hurry for this.
Tabs was also dewormed.
Back home now.
The vet said there is nothing worrying and I’m just to monitor her weight. Let’s hope there is no more weight loss. Maybe 4.6kg is a good weight for her. Tabs was, after all, overweight last time.
