Since 1pm yesterday, there has been no straining to urinate. We’re hoping for the best that Bunny’s UTI is on the mend.
I managed to collect Bunny’s urine this morning so we sent it to the clinic for a urinalysis.
The vet found a very small quantity of struvites in Bunny’s urine sample. That amount is quite normal so that’s not worrying. Bunny’s urine specific gravity is 1.010 (his last reading in November 2019 was 1.016). The urinalysis also showed no presence of any protein but Bunny’s urine was dilute this morning so protein loss, if any, could not be detected. This could be due to yesterday’s subcut. We also know that Bunny has kidney issues, so this is not surprising.
There was no bacteria detected in the urine sample, but the vet advised that we should let Bunny continue with the Baytril for 7 days. An update: We stopped the Baytril after 3 days because Bunny could not defecate.
Bunny will continue with the anti-inflammatory medication since it might take 2-3 weeks for the bladder wall inflammation to subside. We will also finish the whole bottle of UTI-Oxi (30 days) since that is a cranberry extract supplement which will help with urinary issues.
Other than this, Bunny will need to be more hydrated. We have always been adding more water into his regular food because of his constipation problem. But since yesterday, I restarted him on the extra flavoured water again, in between meals.

His water is flavoured with Cindy’s pureed chicken. Given at the “right time”, he can lap up 3-4 servings at one go. Drink, drink, drink, Bunny!
