The last time Bunny had UTI (which is called FIC nowadays, Feline Idiopathic Cystitis) in October 2021, after 3 days on medication, both his eyes were inflamed and had ulcers in them. It was rather strange and we did not know what caused the eye inflammation, but Nicol Eyedrops (prescribed by the vet) solved the problem.
This time, coincidentally and very strangely, 3 days after the FIC, Bunny’s right eye was inflamed as well. He couldn’t even open the eye. The FIC medication is totally different this time. The antibiotic is a different one, the supplement is also a different one, and yet, his right eye got inflamed.
Even the last time, the vet was also baffled and we could not see any connection between the FIC and the eye inflammation. We thought it was coincidental.
And it happened again this time. It’s really very strange.
Nevertheless, I managed to get a bottle of Nicol Eyedrops from the pharmacy and applied it for Bunny. Thankfully, the inflammation subsided gradually and he could open his eyes after a few hours. We are continuing with the eyedrops for a week.
Also, we had to stop the Baytril after 3 days because Bunny got constipated. Although constipation is not a listed side effect of Baytril, Bunny still got constipated. Perhaps in general all antibiotics have the tendency to destroy the healthy flora in the gut, so constipation can happen. For Bunny, constipation is a major problem (he is already on lifelong laxatives,a probiotic and other supplements to help with it), so I had to stop the Baytril, increase the laxatives and his water intake. He managed to defecate after 2 days.
Bunny also doesn’t want water added to his food anymore these days, so I have to resort of giving him his flavoured water again as a snack.

His right eye is still a little inflamed but at least he can open it fully already.
