FurCoco Coconut Fiber for Bunny and Cow

My friend recommended FurCoco Coconut Fiber for Bunny’s constipation problem. Her elderly dog benefited a lot from it.

So I ordered it from Shopee.com.

It is powdered grated organic coconut (please see photo below, with Tabs). And it IS very fragrant.

I read that the natural remedies to help with constipation is to increase hydration and fiber. I’m doing both for Bunny. As for hydration, Bunny is on extra water and 200ml subcut three times a week (for his kidneys). However, due to his kidney condition, a lot of water is still lost through urination.

Bunny absolutely LOVES it. I just mix it with some food. Bunny is also on virgin coconut oil daily. FurCoco also has a VCO product for pets too, but I’m using my own VCO for Bunny.

It does help quite a bit with his daily defecation. Bunny stopped taking steamed pumpkin already (he got fed-up of it), so I’ve replaced that with this coconut fiber which is much easier to feed because Bunny loves it.

Surprisingly, guess who also loves it?

Yes, Cow!

Cow, who is the most difficult cat to feed anything new, also likes the coconut fiber! That’s good because occasionally Cow also has constipation problems. Both Cow and Bunny are 16 years old and are FIV+. Once they have any health issues, I know I would have to find ways to manage it. I don’t expect it to get better knowing that it’s all probably due to old age, so being able to manage it is really good enough already.

Cow doesn’t like virgin coconut oil, but he is willing to eat the coconut fiber mixed with his food.

This is the powdered grated coconut. Tabs also likes it!

For Bunny, my main aim is to avoid having to give him enemas, do manual evacuation or depend on drugs. Last year, he was constipated so badly that I worried he might develop megacolon. There was even an episode where two enemas did not work and we finally had to resort to manual evacuation under sedation. This year, thankfully a single enema worked. If not, the vet was contemplating putting him on the drug, Cisapride. I’m trying my very best to avoid this because it has side effects.

So every morning after breakfast, I take Bunny to his poop-spot and sing the “Scratch 3x” song to get him to defecate. Somehow, he needs this to stimulate him to get into the squatting position to defecate. Without this routine, he doesn’t seem interested to do it by himself. Then, I now mix the coconut fiber with all his meals. In between, Bunny gets virgin coconut oil and extra water (flavoured with Cindy’s pureed chicken). Hopefully this continues to work for Bunny.

Every morning that Bunny can defecate is still a miracle for me! I take a photo of his poop and record the size, just as I did last July for a few months until he was able to consistently defecate every day. Now, we are starting the process all over again.

Thank you, FurCoco Coconut Fiber! At least it is something that Bunny loves and he looks forward to eating it.

Many thanks too to my dear friend for recommending it!
