What happened, Bunny?

Yesterday, Bunny had soft stools. Three rounds, once after each meal.

I don’t know what could have happened to have caused that, but could it have been due to the mix of foods he had been having lately? But this crazy mix didn’t just happen overnight. It’s been going on for weeks already and Bunny had been having really good stools without the constipation or even the need to be stimulated to defecate. Everything had been going so well for him.

Bunny had been asking for kibble. Maybe he ate too much of it?  Or could it be due to Renal-N which I started him on two days ago. It could be anything.

I stopped the evening dose of Lactulose after noticing the soft stools. And for lunch and dinner, Bunny only had Cindy’s Tender Chicken with Broth. I remember the advice of our senior vet long ago – for diarrhoea, give plain boiled chicken. That was the closest I had to plain boiled chicken which Bunny would eat.

And that’s not all.

Last night, I was with Bunny and he was on his favourite chair in the pantry (he got it back after a few months now). Then, I went to the kitchen and suddenly, out of the blue, I heard a loud war cry. Just one. I rushed in immediately and saw Bunny still on his chair but he could not open his right eye. Around the eye was all pink and he was tearing. Indy was running back from the other end of the Bunny’s garden.

So Bunny and Indy were at two far opposite ends of each other. Could there have been a fight? But if there was one, they couldn’t have been so far away from each other.

The only possibility, I think, would be that Indy tried to wrestle the chair from Bunny by jumping up onto it and something happened.

But it sure looked more like Bunny could have bumped into a pillar or something.

I monitored his eye all night, and it looked like he could open it a little after that.

However, Bunny did not go back onto his chair. Indy was sleeping on the pantry slab just beside the chair while Bunny was sitting underneath the slab.

Just before we slept, Bunny had already come back into the room and was sleeping in one of the litter boxes. At least he will be safe from anymore fights, we hope.

It’s 4am now and Bunny’s eye seemed a little better, but I’m not sure if he has an ulcer.

It’s also too dark to go poo-hunting in the garden, but a quick check found no faeces. Still, it’s too dark now.

I’m going to make steamed chicken for Bunny afterwards and I hope he is willing to eat it. Bunny has been extremely fussy over food lately.

I won’t be giving him the Cisapride or Lactulose today. His normal probiotics ought to be okay, but maybe I should just stop everything and just give him steamed chicken until the diarrhoea is resolved. A website recommended steamed pumpkin or sweet potato, but maybe I’ll just heed the advice of our senior vet long ago and stick to plain steamed chicken.

It’s been a long time since anyone had any serious diarrhoea, so I’m a bit loss as to what to do. The last serious case was Indy’s which lasted weeks (and baffled the vet, so what’s new) but he’s weird and that case was very weird too, but it resolved after switching his diet to rabbit. But it took weeks of trying all sorts of medical interventions, none of which worked.

I supposed with Bunny, he was still eating happily yesterday, so that’s a good thing. In fact, he even asked for his nightly kibble, but I did not give any.

This smells Indy all over it. See, he’s stolen Cleo’s pillow now.

I know, Cleo. Indy has taken your pillow.

Bunny’s eye is tearing, but at least he can open it now. I’ve cleaned it with a wet warm cotton pad.

I hope it improves. I’ll probably get his eyedrop for him today.

Bunny has always been prone to eye infections and eye injuries. Poor Buns.

I’m going to steam his chicken now.
