My vet told me about these finger wipes which can be used as a toothbrush for pets and they are available online. So I checked and yes, there are so many brands.
Tootbrushing is actually such an important task for cat parents (and I’m sure, for dogs’ too) because bad dental hygiene will result in all kinds of problems such as the need for dental scaling or teeth extraction, both under anaethesia and worst of all, teeth and gum inflammation can result in the increase in globulin which in turn destroys the nephrons in the kidneys and lead to kidney disease/failure. Vincent’s kidney failure actually started off with bad dental hygiene (since he was a stray). Two rounds of dental scaling plus tooth extraction helped, but only for awhile. The senior vet had already warned me that it will eventually lead to kidney failure. True, that happened.
So, this is how important dental hygiene is.
I’ve started Minnie-5 on daily Orozyme now, but I only manage to give it to Robin, Rey and Lynx. Smurfy, sometimes. Minnie, impossible. But the vet said I should also brush their teeth.
And she told me about these pet finger wipes. So I ordered and they arrived today!

This product is from a local seller but the product comes from China. So, everything is in Chinese (which I cannot read). I asked my husband to read it, but he too could not understand some of the words (so much for more than 10 years of Chinese schooling…haha…sorry, I couldn’t help that). Anyway, the finger wipes are wet – it contains water, aloe vera and lemongrass (and more, which husband couldn’t decipher). What I did was to wash it off first (since I don’t know what the full ingredients are). The vet did tell me that it can be re-used.

It’s made of non-woven material. But a little big for my finger.

Only Cow, Bunny and Tabs were awake. Everyone else was having their afternoon siesta. So I tried it on all three of them. Cow and Bunny did not mind it at all.

Tabs did not like it at all. But then again, Tabs doesn’t like her mouth to be opened. She’s a bit like Cleo, but Cleo is much, much worse. Tabs allows pilling, but not to have her teeth rubbed. She resists Orozyme too. Cleo, on the other hand, loves Orozyme and is willing to lick it. Tabs actually had a hardened gunk (tartar) on one of her tooth which a vet said needed scaling. Thankfully, our senior vet dislodged it with his finger. Ginger also currently has a bad tooth which needs extraction, but I have not sought a second opinion yet. Ginger already had one scaling done a few years ago and had 2 teeth removed.
Later, when everyone is awake, I will try the finger wipe on them, especially the juniors (Minnie-5). I doubt I can even get near Minnie with it. The boys, maybe. Wish me luck!
This finger wipe can also be used for ear cleaning. Excellent!
I wonder if they have such a product for babies….?
