I don’t even dare to write this post or even say it.
But Bunny has been diarrhoea free for more than 48 hours now.
The diarrhoea had persisted for a total of 18 days. Our first regimen of treatment completely failed. Metrogyl and the supplements did not work at all. I gave him Saccharomyces Boulardii (brand: Proladii) and that had no effect either. The second regimen of treatment started with a deworming of 3 days. This also did not work. So from there, I started him on Clavamox (another antibiotic) and the course is for 7 days. On the same day I also started Bunny on Bioflor (a more medical brand of Saccharomyces Boulardii) on two capsules per day. Since then, there has been no diarrhoea and it has been 56 hours now.
Dare we hope that the diarrhoea is gone?
Well, of course I’m happy that there has been no diarrhoea for 56 hours now. For the last 2 weeks plus I have been going out to the garden to check for Bunny’s pasty and watery stools and how my heart sank each time I see a spot somewhere in the garden.
It’s still too early to tell because it has only been 56 hours. But Bunny does seem better today in terms of demeanour and appetite. So was it the Clavamox or the Bioflor, it does not matter to me. All I want is for Bunny to get better and feel better.
I hope the diarrhoea is gone for good. But will the constipation return? This is a big question mark. Bunny has been having chronic constipation for the longest time, since July 2022. I stopped his Lactulose when the diarrhoea persisted and later, I stopped the Cisapride too. So he hasn’t been on any supplements/medication for his chronic constipation. The vet did say that Lactulose should be stopped because there was diarrhoea but Cisapride should continue because this medication is for the motility of the intestines. I stopped it as well because the diarrhoea was going from pasty to watery.
I’ll see how Bunny is tomorrow before deciding on resuming the Cisapride.
I would be a total miracle if he isn’t constipated anymore too!
Well, we can dream, can’t we?
As for Bunny’s meals, he was only willing to eat the RC GastroIntestinal for 2 days. After that, to prevent Bunny from starving, I had to resort to offering him various types of food for each meal to see what he would eat. It was good enough that he ate!
