The kitties’ weight

I was worried about Indra. I see Kai and Akira nursing aggressively but not Indra. He’s there, lying against Samantha but not often nursing. I’ve put him to the nipple, but he just latches on for a short while, then he’d rather sleep.

So I consulted the vet and asked if I should intervene and handfeed Indra. She said I could weigh them daily. There should be a 10-15g increase in weight every day. If not, I can start handfeeding little Indra.

So, here are their weights at 6.00pm this evening:

Kai – 118g
Akira – 115g
Indra – 104g

I will weigh them again tomorrow.

Riley waits outside the room each time I go in to check on Sam and the kittens.

And every single time, I think of the multitudes of kittens and puppies born to mothers on the street. It is truly survival of the fittest. How did Riley survive until the age of 5 months on the street?  How did Smurfy survive?

Here, I put towels all around to keep them warm and safe and I check on them every 1-2 hours. Sam gets the best and most nutritious food that she is willing to eat. They have a whole bedroom to themselves. It’s warm, it’s safe. Still, survival is totally dependent on the kitten’s chances and the mother. We are just helping the best we can.

Out there on the street, so many animals are suffering by just being born. There is no help for them.

Neuter, neuter, neuter, please.
