Kai needs supplementation

Because Samantha had shifted her kittens under the ottoman, it’s hard to check on them, so I just let them be all day, with the occasional peek.

But when I took the kittens’ weight at 6pm, I had a shock of my life. Kai only gained 2g over the last 12 hours. Oh no…this is a red alert.

Kai has been gaining weight so well throughout without needing any supplementation.

Date Time Kai Akira Indra
11-Feb 6.00pm 118 115 104
12-Feb 6.30am 125 123 114
12-Feb 5.30pm 133 131 123
13-Feb 5.30am 143 137 128
13-Feb 6.00pm 149 146 133
14-Feb 5.00am 160 149 145
14-Feb 5.30pm 166 160 158
15-Feb 6.30am 177 167 167
15-Feb 6.00pm 179 174 174

So I fed Kai 3ml of milk. Samantha wasn’t happy, of course.

Maybe Samantha doesn’t have enough milk, or somehow Kai couldn’t get to a nipple? I don’t really know, but I’m glad I didn’t wait until 24 hours to check. I’m going to maintain the 12-hourly weight checks.

I really did not expect this to happen. I thought everything would be going fine from yesterday. Looks like it’s not so. Not yet.

But right after feeding, Kai’s weight went up to 182g. That made sense because 3ml of milk is about 3g in weight.

Every gram matters at this early stage of life.

Constant monitoring is still required.

While Samantha did not want the towel or cardboard, the kittens wanted them. It might be cold at night, so at least they have the towel and cardboard for the night. But the room is warm. I’m just worried about the tiled floor being cold.
