Misty, you’re free to go!

Misty finished her breakfast this morning.

You are free to go, Misty.

But of course she couldn’t understand this at all. So she just hid behind the headboard.

My husband decided to chase her out. That would give me time to sanitise the room and prepare it for Samantha tomorrow. I have lots of do today too. So he chased her out. Misty didn’t know where to go, poor thing…

I kept Riley in Sam’s room because if I let her out, it would be quite chaotic. She’d surely want to get involved and she might end up in the porch as well. I’m worried she might just follow Misty out of the gate and that would be a nightmare for me.

The front door was already wide open and of course, Gerald came in and started mewing. I was hoping Gerald would go upstairs to guide Misty down, but he decided to explore the kitchen where Hiro is.

After my husband chased her out of the room, Misty ran down the stairs but went to the kitchen and tried to force her way out to Bunny’s Place. She must be totally disoriented as she is not familiar with the house at all.

Finally, metal bowls flew all over the kitchen and Hiro went into hiding (poor little baby) and Gerald did his work. He guided Misty out through the front door. Misty ran out, following Gerald.

Misty was out of the front gate. Be safe, Misty. And please, please, please, stay away from Complainant’s house. I hope you understand this. You are welcome to come to our porch to eat, but please don’t wrestle the spot away from Creamy. There’s enough space for three cats in our porch.

Well, I know the cat dynamics and politics is a little way out of my control, so I’m just saying what I wish for.

Creamy had come for breakfast and he stood his ground this time. Maybe because he knows Misty is still scared. So, Creamy stayed and had breakfast.

But someone else came…

Socks came. Now, Gerald does not like Socks. I don’t know why, but he doesn’t like her. So Gerald growled and gave chase. Socks ran off but not too far away.

I know Socks comes from the RYABK down the road. She has her food source there, but is she spayed? I don’t think so as the RYABK does not neuter their many, many cats. And their cats roam freely. But let’s give them the benefit of the doubt. Maybe they neuter their cats now? Let’s hope so.

They won’t even come to the gate the last time I rang their doorbell. I might make a flyer and leave it in their mailbox. But I need to catch my breath first.

I don’t have the time or energy to catch Socks for spaying right now. The last few months, we’ve caught Riley, Gerald, Creamy, Samantha and Misty. For each cat, I’ve spent a considerable amount of money on their medical fees because besides neutering (it’s not a low-cost vet), I also get them vaccinated, tested for FIV/FeLV (except for Riley as she was too young then) and Gerald and Creamy were boarded for post-op recovery too. All my own rescue work is out of my own pocket. I do not claim from AnimalCare. Never have.

So this is as much as I can handle right now. As much as I wish I could get Socks spayed, I’d have to feed her first. My method is not to trap but to make friends first, gain their trust, then catch. That is why I coined CNRM right from the start. C=Care. It isn’t as traumatic as trapping. But we give our aid if others use humane traps.

I don’t have the time to do the whole “feeding-making friends-tricking into the house” process for Socks. Also, she belongs to the RYABK. She isn’t a “stray stray”. She looks good too. And what if Socks is already spayed but not ear-notched, right?  I mean, that’s a long shot, but it is possible, isn’t it? Hence, the ear-notch is so important, especially for female cats. But some feeders are still reluctant to get it done. I know of a big group of rescuers in a certain place in PJ. They are so famous and well-supported, but they don’t ear-notch their neutered animals. I’ve asked their friends to advise them but it has fallen on deaf ears.

I hope I don’t have to feed Socks. Gerald, please do your CNRM-duty.

But Socks came again. And Gerald chased her out.

Knowing Gerald and his good nature, he might just make friends with Socks. If Samantha was spayed and released, Samantha might chase Socks away too. But I know Sam and Misty have fought very ferociously before. Can’t risk that happening.

So where is Misty now? My husband thinks she’s gone into hiding in the drain.

Just don’t go in that direction, please.

I’m going to sanitise Riley’s room now.
