Samantha escapes…

…from Bunny’s Place into the house.

Not onto the road. Just into the house.

But it was bad enough.

She sneaked out when I opened the screen door from Bunny’s Room last night, at about 9pm.

Then, it was impossible to get her back.

As you know, Samantha refuses to let me touch her. Even Misty is more approachable and friendly.

When Samantha was confined upstairs for her “maternity” period, she let me touch her and feed the Blondies too, but after we moved the family down to Bunny’s Place, she was totally touch-me-not.

The house is big enough for her to run around so catching her was mission-impossible.

She ran upstairs and tried as I did, I could not coax her to go back to Bunny’s Room.

So, I let her be for the night.

She must have remained upstairs all night.

Now as I recall, there is a precursor to this “escape”. Gerald has been coming and the two have been having conferences for a few days now. Maybe Samantha wants to go back out to be with Gerald. It’s coming to five months since she gave birth (exactly five months tomorrow, on the 10th), so this is about the time a mother-cat “leaves”.

But there are easily four problems with letting Samantha out:

  1. Samantha hates Misty, so I foresee the two will fight to the death. Misty is FIV+.
  2. Cmpl is not going to be happy. So far, after that incident, there has been no complaints and I’m thankful.
  3. In a neighbourhood such as mine, it is safer for any animal to be indoors.
  4. The Blondies are still close to Samantha. They will definitely miss her.

Talking about this, rewinding back to three years ago when the Monsters were born, Minnie also left at around 4 months, but she did come back almost daily to visit the Monsters. Still, she wanted her freedom to be outside and I let her. Also, at that time, our catio wasn’t fully netted, so there was no way to confine Minnie. She was an escape artist and a skilful climber. Then, the Monsters got rehomed and Minnie really did miss them. Later on, Minnie did a Phantom-of-the-Opera drama inside our attic, I managed to catch her and then the adopter took her in too. Fast forwarding to last June, we brought Minnie and her Monsters home. But this time, we built up the catio so that it is escape-proof.

The point is, Minnie too wanted to leave and be free. But now, Minnie is very happy living in Ginger’s Catio with her boys. She has not made any attempts nor has she shown any signs of wanting to escape.

So, back to Samantha’s escape…

The Blondies, especially Indra and Akira came to the screen door to mew for her. I knew they would miss her. They are very close to her.

So this morning, we tried the impossible task again.

It was impossible.

This time she wanted to go back, but she didn’t want us humans to be anywhere near her.

Finally, I managed to coax her back into the room.

Phew!!

I know she’s still trying to escape because when I came inside the house from the porch after feeding Gerald, Misty and Creamy, Samantha was right there. Luckily she isn’t as sneaky as Riley. Not yet.

If this were a friendlier CNRM-friendly neighbourhood, I might consider letting her out if that’s what she wants, but it isn’t.

I hear there are many catching activities going on recently too.

So, Samantha is back in Bunny’s Room now.

It also proves that our house IS really escape-proof, as in, no cat can get out from the house.

Or, is it?

Samantha inside the tunnel after she returned to Bunny’s Room this morning.

When Gerald doesn’t come and kacau her, she’s fine. She gets all worked up when Gerald comes, usually in the mornings and evenings. This has nothing to do with sexual urges as both are neutered! She just wants to go out, or Gerald wants her to go out!

But Gerald is best of friends with Misty now, so wouldn’t that be a problem?
