My plan is to gradually increase the volume of the subcut fluids for Cleo and Indy.
Gradually, being the operative word here, because too much fluids might tax of the heart as well as, ironically, the kidneys too.

Ever since Cleo started getting 150ml daily, her appetite has improved tremendously. But perhaps the Astro Oil’s care package is helping too. Or the increased Renal-N. It’s hard to pinpoint exactly which is helping, but I’m not running a research here, so it does not matter to me. All I want is for Cleo to feel better. This morning, Cleo had 175ml.
Previously, for the last 4 years, Cleo has been maintaining at 200ml three times a week. This clearly isn’t enough now seeing how her creatinine and urea levels were off the charts in the last vet visit.

Indy just started on subcut fluids after the last visit as his creatinine and urea levels were also totally off the charts. He has been diagnosed with Stage 3 kidney degeneration while Cleo is at Stage 2.
Indy’s came on “suddenly” because in his last check-up last year, his readings were normal. With geriatric cats, perhaps the annual visit should be shortened to 6-monthly vet visits. But the thing is, he had no symptoms except for being more and more choosy over food and I thought he was just being particularly choosy. Actually, it was probably the onset of inappetence brought about by kidney degeneration.
Indy has been doing much better ever since he started on subcut. The vet prescribed 250ml on alternate days, but I’ve asked if he could have it at 150ml daily and the vet agreed. Yesterday, I increased it to 175ml and today, 225ml. He should be able to tolerate this increased amount.
The revisit is coming up in a few days’ time. I cannot wait to see if the regimen they are on has made a difference.
