If we have no time to accompany the boys out to the catio to play with the cats or to the front porch to feed Gerald, Misty and Creamy, the boys bring their stools and watch from inside the house!
This is Jayden. He placed the stools there so that he can sit and watch the cats. Like on a safari watch!
Jayden isn’t tall enough to reach for the handle to open the doors.
But Ryan is.
The other day, Ryan opened the front door to go out when I was feeding Gerald and Misty and what a pandemonium that was!
Ryan didn’t know he had to close the door immediately to prevent Riley from escaping so yes, Riley escaped.
And Riley has perfected her escape so well that we humans won’t even know she has slipped out even if we are right there.
So what happened was, Misty had finished eating and she went under the car. Then, “Misty” came out from the opposite side of the car and eh, why has Misty grown so big??
Oh no! It’s not Misty, it’s Riley!!!!
Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Riley has escaped!!!!
So quickly turned to look at the front door and horrors of horrors, it was wide open and Ryan had come out without closing it!
I quickly shouted, “Close the door, close the door!! Riley has escaped!”, which, on hindsight, was totally stupid as Riley had already escaped, right?
Well, Tabs might escape too, though it is unlikely and we can usually catch Tabs back quite easily as she is a scaredy and unadventurous cat.
Ryan too raised the alarm and started shouting and crying all over the house. I guess Ryan got a scare too.
So, thus began the quest to catch Riley.
It wasn’t easy. She already knew that she could make a beeline for the garbage compartment, jump up the ledge on the shared wall and she would be free!
It took time and a lot of patience and waiting.
Can a human out-wait a cat?
So Riley remained under the car. It was a very tricky situation because in order to get to her, I would have to relinquish my sentry position nearer to the front gate and she would easily escape through the front gate.
So I had no choice but the wait it out. And waited it out I did.
Finally, I caught her and took my prized possession back to the house.
Phew!!
So now, I think it might be wiser to keep Riley in Bunny’s Place whenever Ryan comes. Because Ryan can already open the front door from the inside AND Riley can outsmart everyone.
