Phew, what a relief, it’s nothing serious, just a tummy upset.
By 8.25am this morning, Ginger already looked much better. Earlier on, he was on the highest platform and had refused to come down.
Minnie had been very worried about Ginger and she didn’t even eat her breakfast. Then, Minnie started mewing, which is a rare occurence. I knew she was hungry, so I brought the kibble jar out. The moment Ginger heard the sound, he came down.
He seemed hungry and he looked so much better already. I guessed he was already well, but I didn’t want to take any chances, we will still take him to the vet’s.

Ginger had good appetite, but I didn’t want to push it. I just let him eat a bit. Minnie also ate along with everyone else. Poor Minnie was initially so worried she skipped breakfast.

To monitor Ginger’s diarrhoea, I had lined the sandpits with kitchen towels. Ginger has a tendency to bury his faeces, so it’s hard to search for it, especially when it’s pasty. But since 5.50am, I had not discovered anymore diarrhoea.
This is the information I gave the vet, from my own observation and the CCTV footage:

Luckily we managed to get a 10.30am appointment. The vet checked and Ginger’s temperature was normal. There was absolutely no fecal matter stuck to the thermometer too, so it looks like the diarrhoea had resolved itself. Perhaps my self-administration of probiotics, postbiotics and Kaolin-Pectin had done its job.
The ear-prick PBF showed nothing remarkable; everything was normal. There was no elevated WBC too. So the vet thinks there is no infection (what a relief!) and it’s just a self-limiting tummy upset which can cause diarrhoea and vomiting. I also mentioned about the new foods; yesterday, I added some PetChef to Ginger’s home-cooked meal. But later, I gave him some boiled tilapia fish too (it was meant for Juno but she didn’t want any, neither did the Blondies). These were the only two “new” foods yesterday, so either one (or both?) could have caused the tummy upset.
Anyway, the vet says it’s just a tummy upset and nothing serious. So, she prescribed Promax probiotic for 3 days, one dose of Omeprazole for this evening (before food), and after that Ginger can go on our own probiotics. Then, in a week’s time, to deworm him again. That’s about it.
She also checked his eye and it’s much better. The conjunctiva is no longer swollen. His ears look much better and cleaner too. So, all good.
We came home to a hero’s welcome!

Minnie is always looking after Ginger.

“Go away, and stop taking my photograph!!”
Small meals throughout the day to let the tummy settle, and he should be fine.
What a relief!
